Young Australian driver Josh Burdon put in a stunning display to finish 3rd from 20th in his Euro Nascar debut this afternoon in the number 18 Spirit Chevrolet at the Ricardo Tormo circuit at Valencia, Spain.
Josh only arrived in Spain a few days ago in what is his first overseas drive. The Australian F3 driver quickly got to grips around the tricky street circuit, scything through the field of more experienced competitors and setting the fastest lap of the race along the way.
Unable to record a qualifying lap due to technical difficulties, Josh passed more cars than any other driver on the track.
A jubilant Burdon was thrilled for his team (Scorpus Racing) and promised more to come for tomorrow’s endurance race.
“Because of the rain and my technical problems, I ran very few laps yesterday,” said the 19-year-old the Australian, “I had to learn a great deal, including the car, during the race…but it’s fantastic to give Scorpus Racing team the result they deserve. Never liked the taste of champagne till this afternoon! I will be sharing the car tomorrow for an endurance race with a driver from Switzerland”.
In Sunday’s enduro race, Burdon ran as high as 2nd before succumbing to gearbox problems, but his underlying speed will give Scorpus Racing huge confidence going into the Final round at Le Mans next weekend.
